Kobe will beat Jordan in the Ring Race

SportsCenter Trade Discussion

When arrived to my apartment today from school I turned my television on and as always it is on ESPN. I am a die-hard Los Angeles Lakers fan and have been since Kobe Bryant entered the league in 1997. The shocking news I found today was that Mitch Kupchak the Lakers General Manager has decided to put the entire team on the trade block besides Kobe Bryant. Kobe has three years and 83 million dollars remaining on his contract. Kupchak's ideal plan is to acquire both Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic and Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets. Addiding the most dominant center in the NBA and the best defensive player in the league will help protect the paint for the Lakers. The addition of Chris Paul will be a threatening facilitator that is able to make everyone on the court around him better. Having three superstars on the same team will open room for Kobe and his mid range jump shot. Their ability to spread the floor will be their strength and teams will not be able to match up to these all stars. As the NBA buzz continues you cannot count the New York Knicks out of the race for both Paul and Howard. The Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks may have some more competition from the West this year.

Violence is Unecessary in Sport

Please review the link below for a great example from the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers violent melee in 2006.

Today in class we held a 4 on 4 debate on weather violence is or is not necessary in sport. My group presented that violence is uncessary in sport.
Our main points we build off of included violence in sports projects a negative image to our society, violence in sports is unecessary because of the brutal body contact that often leads to life threatening injuries, that violence is unecessary in sports because of the effects on different cultures globally, and violence is

Saints rally past GMEN on Monday Night

Wow, the New York Giants three weeks ago were atop the NFC North with a 5-3 record and looked sharp after defeating the Miami Dolphins in a close game. Although Eli has been posting breakthrough numbers for his career, the New York Giants are now on a three game losing streak and will be hosting the undefeated Green Bay Packers this upcoming Sunday. Drew Brees heroics from the New Orleans Saints was the main element in leading them to the much needed victory. This win puts the Saints one game above the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South.Brees threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns this is in addition to his touchdown scramble. This followed an imitation of the iconic Michael Jordan logo- legs spread football finger rolled over the goalpost. Brees has been impressive this season and has been consistent since joining the Saints. Rookie running back Mark Ingram and veteran Pierre Thomas each rushed for a touchdown; the Saints offense thrived on Monday night. The loss of Osi Umenyoria early in the 1st half really affected the Giants pass rush and provided Brees more time to be in the pocket. The link below is the:

Moore Stepping Up

The Miami Dolphins are currently on a three game winning streak after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins have outscored these three opponents 86 to 20 and have won by an average of 22 points, which is very impressive compared to their average 8.4 points scored per game during their 0-7 start. If Miami were able to win at least 3 of their first seven games they would be a top the AFC East Race for the playoffs. Miami still needs to face each division opponent once this season and their are still six games remaining in the regular season. I cannot see Miami being a playoff team but that would be quite the achievement by them. I am happy to see the Dolphins turn it around, I do not want to see Tony Sparano being fired; I feel he is a great coach and understands what needs to be done in preparation to defeat his opponenets. The way he handles post game press conferences is impressive, he understands how too talk to the media and what does and does not have to be presented to them. The Dolphins will be traveling to Dallas to play against the Cowboys in their billion dollar stadium on Thanksgiving day at 4:15 on CBS. Winning Streak Link

Sandusky Interview with CBS Sports

While falling asleep last night, I was lucky to catch a CBS Special on ESPN that featured a phone interview with Jerry Sandusky, the alleged petefile and former defensive coordinator for the Pennsylvania State University Football Team.

The most shocking statement made by Sandusky was I am not a petefile, I just enjoy being with young children, they make me happy.

This is disgusting, I won't be able to change my thoughts about Sandusky even if he is accused not guilty. He claimed the statements made by a Graduate Assistant in 2002, were false, the Graduate Assistant witnessed a boy in the shower facilities at Penn State University and said he could here smacking.

Sandusky addmitted to being in the shower with the boy however he claimed they were whipping at towels at each other and that he has never had any sexual contact with another boy.

Daltion shows quality Leadership and Winning Mentality

Andy Dalton is currently the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals and with his performance this year he will not be losing this position. Dalton was drafted in the second round by the Bengals in the 2011 NFL Draft. His college career lasted four years at TCU, their he was able to break various records set by previous quarterbacks at TCU. Dalton has been able to lead the Bengals to a 6-2 record mid way through the season and they are a top the AFC North Division. This weekend Dalton will be tested against the furious and mean Pittsburgh Steelers Defense that is well known for the pass rush abilities. Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu I can imagine is studying day and night on Dalton's reads and I hope to see Dalton succeed. This season Dalton has a 61.5% completion percentage, 1,696 yards passing, 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. At age 24 the rookie quarterback out of TCU is showing he has the ability to lead a struggling organization into steps towards the playoffs. I hope to see the Cincinnati Bengals succeed this season rather than having the Pittsburgh Steelers or Baltimore Ravens be atop the division.

The Changing AFC EAST

This season has been much different than expected of most fans and NFL analysts. The most suprising in the division is the Buffalo Bills; they're starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been excelling and providing a big spark for the Bills Offense. Fred Jackson the teams starting running back has been able to provide several 100 yard rushing performances and all star wide receiver Stevie Johnson has had 6 catches in seven games. The New England Patriots have not been playing their best game this season and Head Coach Bill Belichek knows they are being looked at by the league as not perorming to their abilities. Starting quarterback, Tom Brady has been able to lead the offense to victories with 2 minute drill touchdowns however the defense has not been able to hold their weight even with the addition of pro bowl defensive tackle, Albert Haynesworth.

The New York Jets are currentyl third in the division and Head Coach Rex Ryan still has high expectations for his team. Starting quarterback Mark Sanchez has performed well this season however the Jets have the majority of their loses in close games. The Miami Dolphins are fourth in the division at 0-7, their Head Coach Tony Sparano is under a lot of heat and still believes in his organization and players. I am a Miami Dolphins fan I am upset with their performance this season but i feel Tony is the right coach for us and we will be able to put a strong team together once we aquire a few more additions. The standings are tight between the Bills, Patriots, and Jets however you can count the Dolphins out of the playoff race for this season

How Sport can translate into Violence

Referee shot dead during Brazilian football match - Sambafoot.com, all About Brazilian Football

I found this article will browsing a referee support system. When I read the title I was shocked. The referee was shot during a Brazilian Futbol Championship game. I would not be suprised if the police learn that the referee was shot because he was involved in some kind of gambling or unfair officiating that was under control by a minority group. The man that shot him is still on the loose and he also shot another man in the leg during the incident. The security in Brazil must not be that strong or emphasized if a referee was able to be shot dead and the man was able to run from the situation. Fan safety is imperial in facilities and if you cannot guarentee safety to your spectators it will be difficult to keep filling up the stands each game.

I enjoyed this article and I will blog more about it if I find anything new!

Philly isn't Flying as Expected

Going into the 2011-2012 season in the NFL the expectations of fans, coaches, and NFL analysists was that the Philadelphia Eagles would not run into much trouble making it to the Super Bowl. I myself predicted an all Pennsyvania Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles facing off the Pittsburgh Steelers. However right now the Eagles are 1-3 and tied for last in their division while the Steelers are 2-2 and at the bottom of their division.

The Philadelphia Eagles were held to high expectations this ytear because of their off season free agency work in the marketplace. The Eagles picked up at total of nine superstar potential athletes from around the league. Some of these include but are not limited to Ronnie Brown, Namdi Asomougha, and Vince Young. These are three super star athletes that can make a big affect on how the team excels, however none of which have much playoff experience.

The team is under the leadership of Michael Vick who is currently on one of the highest paid salaries amongst all NFL quarterbacks. His athleticism, skill, and love for the game of football will help him get through the struggles his team is currently facing. Although Vick received a minor concussion in week 2 he is still fighting to help his team and play game in and game out.

Personally I would like to see the Eagles not make the playoffs and have a team like the Detroit Lions or Buffalo Bills make a run to shock their cities and fan bases and build a stronger marketplace in those cities.

The Pittsburgh Steelers look sluggish to say the least this past Sunday against the Houston Texans and their Offense was far from productive. Big Ben needs to bring the team back into their play making strategies and spice up the Offense before they begin to fall under the .500 mark.

The Fins are in for another season in the Swamp

Being a Miami Dolphins fan since I didn't even know how to walk, it's sad to say they will not be making it too far this season. I am a worried fan, please do not bring upon an 0-16 season. They look ugly out their, the team has no chemistry, they aren't focused, and they play with no ambition. We need to rebuild our quarterback situation has been terrible the past decade, nobody reliable has came to play. I want a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning kind of guy that sits in the pocket comfortable and makes the right decision. Chad Henne has not evolved as a quarterback although he has some of the skills it's not all their and you need that to keep in the National Football League. Our defense is also not great, we have not had a strong secondary in the past and it does not look any better this season. Vontae Davis our 22nd round draft pick in the 2010 NFL draft has been impressive and improving but he is the only piece I see worth keeping under contract. I want the Dolphins to spend some money and go out on the market and get some new guys. I'm fed up as a Dolphins fan especially now that the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions are 3-0 for the first time in a long while. Let's see if Miami can make something happen this weekend.

3-0 who would of known?

The Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills look different then the teams have in the past decade. Both teams are undefeated and have been very competitive against legitimate opponents. Detroit trailed 20-0 at the halfthis past Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings and the Bills trailed 21-0 at the half against the New England Patriots. Both teams fought they're way back into the game during the second half and were able to defeat their division rivals. This great start by these minimum salary cap teams is really going to boost their sales in all areas of the business. Ticket sales, apparel, jerseys and overall media of these teams will only increase If they continue to suceed. Most sport spectators, analysis and fans of the NFL are amazed by the performances of these two teams and I feel like only more people will begin to cheer on these underdogs.

Urlacher takes a hit to the heart

Long time pro bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher has been a notorious icon of the linebacker position in the National Football League for the last decade. He has been able to lead his defense for many years and he is a hard nosed guy. Unfortunatley this past weekend he received news from Texas that his mother at age 51, had past away. Urlacher said in a press conference that he is moving his mind to family and close friends, he does not want to deal with football right now and his status for sunday against the New Orleans Saints is uncertain.

Brady- Unstoppable year in and year out

Tom Brady is the most productive player in the national football league today. I am a big Miami Dolphins fan and the Monday Night Football Game on September 12, 2011 featured the Dolphins hosting the Patriots. Both teams started off playing strong and it was not a one sided matchup. The score at halftime was 14 to 7 the Patriots with the lead and the Miami defense was the only reason they were still in the game. However once the second half began each time brady and his offense posseseed the ball they would take advantage of it. New England was able to take over the second half wininning the game 38 to 24 in Dolphin Stadium. Brady went 32 for 48 with 512 yards passing and 4 touchdown passes, he is unbelieveable that is a great game overall and for fantasy owners he put up some big numbers. I'm scared of the Patriots every season, they are always in the hunt for the playoffs or clinching a birth I feel it's because of their veteran quarterback that feels great in the pocket and their head coach Bill Belichekhttp://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2011091200/2011/REG1/patriots@dolphins?module=HP11_headline_stack#menu=highlights&tab=recap

Green Bay Defensive Front does it Big

To open up the National Football League season this Thursday, September 8th, the New Orleans Saints faced the super bowl defending Green Bay Packers at Green Bay. This was an exciting match up with two of the leagues greatest quarterbacks Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers facing off and it was sure a big day for fantasy owners of these players. The Packers were able to hold the lead the entire game, however Sean Payton and the Saints were able to be competitive and keep it a close game. Drew Brees made heroic efforts and brought his team to the 1 yard-line on the final drive of the game. Sean Payton turned to their first round overall draft choice Mark Ingram, being a power back it wasn't a poor decision. Unfortunatley the Green Bay Defensive Front was able to hold Ingram back when the game was in his hands. This could have been a great way for Ingram to boost his confidence being able to run the ball past the goal line especially since the game was at Green Bay. I see both of these teams making it to the playoffs this season and both have the potential to be dangerous late in the post season.

Get to know Mr. Cohen

Hello!
Thanks for checking out my blog. I am a Sophomore at Slippery Rock University studying Sport Management and I am very determined to earn a bachelor's and master's degree within this area of study. I was born and raised in Rochester, New York; it's in Upstate New York about an hour East of Buffalo. I came to Slippery Rock because of the curriculum they offer here and since their campus seemed very neat.

In High School i played Football and Lacrosse from Freshman to my Senior year, I also played Basketball during Freshmen and Sophomore year and couldn't play anymore because I had put on a little to much weight over the summer. I have been an uncle for seven years, i have two nephews and two neisses they are awesome and i try to teach them new things every time I get to hang out with them. My favorite sports to play are Lacrosse and Basketball, I currently play for the Club Lacrosse team here at Slippery Rock and we have made it to the NCLL Final Four in Virginia the past four seasons which is a big accomplishment. My favorite sports teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Dolphins, FC Chelsea, and the Buffalo Sabres. This summer I stayed very active in Sport Management by doing two practicums with the University of Buffalo; one with the Athletics Department and the other with the Football Department. Towards the end of the summer i worked at Buffalo Bills Training Camp which was held at St. John Fisher College which is about ten minutes from my house. These experienecs were all beneficial and i learned a lot while having fun during these experiences. I am excited that this year has already started and I plan to make it a good one.
I would like to wish everyone in Sport Communication good luck this semester and if you need any help or have questions my email is MJC1454@sru.edu.

Garrard Gone doesn't bring more sunshine in Jacksonville

Jack Del Rio and the Jacksonville Jaguars organization are blaming Del Rio's last six years of no playoff appearances on David Garrard. I feel it's the managing staff of the Jaguars. They are not an aggressive team during the free agents busts and they try to save all of their money. I don't understand, we see it year after year the teams that don't spend money don't win games it's that easy. Teams like the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Cleveland Browns shoot for young guys that will accept little cash or washed up veterans. These teams need to exploit the market if they want change, not drop their only stars.

I feel that the Jacksonville Jaguars are going down hill from here; if Jacksonville thinks Blaine Gabbert is the answer i feel differently. He needs time to feel for the league, the NFL is a big step up for young stars like Gabbert he needs to develop, Garrard good have been the veteran to teach him new things but now its up to Luke McCown. Jacksonville faces the Tennessee Titans this weekend for their season opener and unless Maurice Jones Drew can have a break out performance i don't see the Jaguars coming out with a win. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6936966/jacksonville-jaguars-release-david-garrard-days-opener

Vick becomes one of the highest paid players in the NFL

Michael Vick served 19 months for his felony dog fighting charges. After earning the comeback player of the year award in 2010 and having a strong two seasons coming out of jail, Vick proved to the football nation that he still has talent and he sure isn't going to be done anytime soon. On August 30th, 2011 Michael Vick became the third highest player in the NFL with a six year, $100 million dollar deal. The Philadelphia Eagles also made the most free agent moves this off season and a lot of people feel the Philadelphia Eagles will be a top contender for the Superbowl. I am predicting a Pennsylvania Superbowl with two of the wildest fan bases in the NFL being the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
