Violence is Unecessary in Sport

Please review the link below for a great example from the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers violent melee in 2006.

Today in class we held a 4 on 4 debate on weather violence is or is not necessary in sport. My group presented that violence is uncessary in sport.
Our main points we build off of included violence in sports projects a negative image to our society, violence in sports is unecessary because of the brutal body contact that often leads to life threatening injuries, that violence is unecessary in sports because of the effects on different cultures globally, and violence is
unecessary in sport because of the integrity it takes away from the game.
We chose to define sport and define violence and prove that these two are not meant to be related. We keened on the ideal that the Olympic rules say that violence is not accepeted and will lead to disciplinary action.
To prove the point of brutal body contact in sport we discussed the current first class action law suit against the NFL by more than seventy-five former NFL players complaining that the NFL hid the dangers and affects of concussions and they new the dangers as early as 1920. For example David Duerson committed suicide because of consistent depression and he had a brain disease called Chronic Trauma Enthelopathy (CTE). Duerson's brain revealed evidence and was used for further research, the Bears Safety suffered ten known concussions in his career. To show how violence in sports affects our society we researched the number of sport television viewing hours per week per person and stated that 78% of the United States are considered sports fans. We related the number high number for television viewing and the high number of violent incidents in sports to why their are high numbers of fights in schools for youth and to relate that the united states has the highest crime rate in teh world.
Violence is present at all levels of sport and it will be ipossible to eliminate violence in sports however we can make stronger efforts to educate our society and atheltes that these are issues we need to realize about violence in sport.
